These different levels of engagement are further described below in size order. In addition to these, HELDIG also runs a Digital Humanities Research Seminar targeted mainly at doctoral students and researchers.
For whom? Aimed for all students interested in digital humanities and social sciences from the BA level onwards.
What? An introductory course that will give you a wide overview of different approaches to digital humanities and social sciences at the University of Helsinki across faculty borders.
How? The course is organized each spring both in Finnish and in English:
For whom? Aimed mainly for MA students and beyond. A bachelor degree is required for completion of the full study module. However, you can start taking individual courses (for example, Elements of Digital Humanities & Computational Literacy) already before.
What? Introduces you to the landscape of digital humanities, as well as to how computational approaches can be of use in the humanities and social sciences. Also gives you a taste of what this means in practice.
How? Two-part structure:
For whom? Aimed mainly for MA students and beyond. Bachelor degree is required for completion of the full study module. However, you can start taking individual courses (for example, Elements of Digital Humanities & Computational Literacy) already before.
What? Building on LDA-HA500 above, this version adds 15 ECTS worth of elective courses in its middle. The idea here is that after having taken LDA-H304 and LDA-H305 which give you the lay of the land, you will know which of the elective courses to select to deepen your knowledge before applying it to the test of practice.
How? Three-part structure:
For whom? A study track ("major") for students in the MA programme Linguistic Diversity and Digital Humanities.
What? A modular study track of digital humanities that will give you in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in a focus area of your choice within the theory and practice of digital humanities, up to the level required to formulate and complete a DH master's thesis. At the same time, you will study a 30 ECTS minor in an application subject domain of your choice, which will provide the contentual questions for your DH approach.
Study rights to the track need to be applied separately, but the content includes the courses of the minor blocks which you can freely start with.
